SPRINGFIELD, MO.— International Dehydrated Foods (I.D.F.), L.L.C., a business unit of Symrise, is expanding its ChikPro portfolio to include ChikPro Collagen Bone Broth. The ingredient, which contains a 55% minimum level of collagen, recently received a patent for its collagen content and prebiotic effect.

The ingredient is made from chicken bone broth that has been enriched for type II collagen. The U.S. Patent Office granted the patent based on the results of two preclinical studies from the Center for Biomedical & Life Sciences at Missouri State University in Springfield. The trials demonstrated a significant prebiotic effect in increasing Lactobacillus, a bacteria that promotes gut health. This could reduce or eliminate the need for regular prebiotic supplements, according to I.D.F.

“Public interest in bone broth and collagen is on the rise, and many consumers use it as a supplement for joint and skin health, as well as a source of electrolytes,” said Stephanie Lynch, vice-president of sales, marketing and technology at I.D.F. “The recent preclinical trials uncovered additional health benefits that have previously not been recognized.”

ChickPro Collagen is free from common allergens, including dairy and soy. It is paleo and keto-friendly.
