SPRINGDALE, Ark. – Tyson Foods, Inc. is discontinuing its Yappah! brand a little over one year after its debut. Yappah! offered bite-size crisps featuring upcycled chicken breast trim and rescued carrot and celery purees from juicing or spent malted barley from beer brewing.

“We’re sorry, but Yappah Chicken Crisps are no longer available,” a message on the Yappah! website said. “The team decided that the product did not offer the viability that would enable continued investment. Thank you for your interest.”

Additionally, a note on the brand's Facebook page reads, "We're sad to say it ... we're going out of business. We reached a point where it didn't make sense to pursue the business any further. Thank you for all of your support along the way."

Packaged in recyclable aluminum cans and featuring 8 to 10 grams of protein per serving, Yappah! crisps came in four varieties: chicken celery mojo, chicken carrot curry, chicken I.P.A. white cheddar and chicken sunshine shandy beer. The brand was originally designed to be an umbrella under which future products would be launched to help address social and sustainability challenges related to food, Tyson said.

In a statement to Food Business News sister publication Meat + Poultry, Tyson Foods said, “Yappah! was part of our disruptive innovation model. We have decided not to move forward with it at this time for a variety of reasons, including overall viability. Food waste is still a focus for us.”
