NEW YORK — Private equity firm Centre Partners has completed the acquisition of Captain D’s Holding Corp., a Nashville, Tenn.-based national restaurant chain with 521 seafood-themed units in 26 states, from an affiliate of Sun Capital Partners, Inc. Captain D’s senior management team will own a significant stake in the business and team members will continue to serve in their current roles.

“We’re excited to invest in Captain D’s and to partner with Phil Greifeld and his executive team,” said Bruce Pollack, managing partner of Centre Partners. “Captain D’s differentiated menu of high quality seafood products at a value price point clearly distinguishes it from its competitors and the business is managed exceptionally well. We look forward to supporting Phil and the team, who have laid the foundation for very attractive growth in the coming years.”

Founded in 1986, Centre Partners has invested over $3 billion in more than 90 transactions, partnering with management teams across a broad spectrum of industries. Centre Partners currently has a stake in Bellisio Foods, Inc., a manufacturer and marketer of branded and private label frozen entrees and snacks sold primarily under the Michelina’s and Boston Market brands. The company earlier held investment interests in American Seafoods, L.P., Bumblebee Foods, L.P. and Uno Restaurant Holdings Corp.

“We are excited to have Centre as our partner as we embark upon a path of accelerated growth,” Mr. Greifeld said. “We have succeeded in driving same-store growth for the last 28 periods, while improving our customer experience. Our customers have responded positively to recent improvements in Captain D’s menu and we’re even more excited by new initiatives that are just now being introduced.”

Sagittarius Brands, Inc., an affiliate of Sun Capital Partners, Inc., acquired Captain D’s Seafood Kitchen in May 2010.
