MISSISSAUGA, ONT. — Aryzta North America is expanding in Canada with the launch of a new frozen bread line at its baking facility in Ancaster, Ont. The 237,000-square-foot plant currently makes a variety of breakfast and sweet baked goods for food service and retail customers under the Oakrun Farm Bakery and Otis Spunkmeyer brands and for private label.

Aryzta said the new frozen bread line is capable of producing large loaves as well as small rolls and buns. The frozen dough then is shipped to retailers and food service customers, where it is freshly baked in store.

The new line, which is the tenth production line at the Ancaster plant, initially will supply customers in Canada, but Aryzta said the capacity increase will enable it to expand supply and meet customer needs throughout North America.

“The Ancaster bakery is key to our long-term growth plans,” said Deb Cochrane, president of Aryzta Canada. “With this efficient new line, we are investing to diversify our offerings, build sustainability, and most importantly, be a stronger and more cost-competitive partner to our customers.”

In August, Aryzta announced plans to begin making Otis Spunkmeyer Supreme Muffins at its baking plant in Ancaster. Previously, the muffins only had been baked at the company’s facility in Cayce, S.C.

Aryzta acquired the Ancaster plant as part of its 2014 acquisition of Pineridge Bakery. In addition to muffins the facility bakes bagels, croissants, cakes and sweet yeast goods.
