CHICAGO — EggLife Foods, Inc. is launching a line of tortilla-style wraps made with egg whites instead of flour.

EggLife wraps have fewer than 30 calories, 1 gram of carbs or less and 5 grams of protein each. Containing zero grams of saturated fat, the wraps are gluten-free, grain-free, dairy-free and soy-free. Varieties include original, Italian-style, rye-style and Southwest-style.

The Italian-style wrap includes garlic, salt, black pepper, red pepper, oregano, basil, red bell pepper, green bell pepper, dill seed, cumin, chili pepper, onion and white pepper. The rye-style egg white wrap adds caraway seeds, and the Southwest-style wrap features seasonings, including garlic, cumin, onion, chili pepper, red pepper, salt, black pepper, red bell pepper, green bell pepper, dill seed and white pepper.

“There are better-for-you food options that fit different dietary lifestyles — low-carb, gluten-free, low-calorie, dairy-free, paleo-, keto- or Whole30-friendly, etc. — but only EggLife egg white wraps are all of the above, not to mention delicious,” said David Kroll, chief executive officer of EggLife. “We are filling a major gap for consumers. At the heart of this brand is a parent who wanted to make positive changes in the way she and her family eat. It’s exciting to lead a brand that promises to help make these positive changes for so many more families.”

EggLife egg white wraps are the flagship product for EggLife Foods, a company committed to using eggs to reimagine carbohydrate-laden foods. The company was founded by Peggy Johns, who developed the recipe for the egg white wraps in her kitchen.

"I was having some health issues, and my doctor said I needed to cut carbs and sugar — easier said than done,” said Ms. Johns, director of innovation for EggLife Foods. “But I knew that eggs were low in carbs and sugar and high in protein, so I started experimenting. After lots of trial and error, I came up with some pretty great recipes — my kids and their friends loved them. It occurred to me that I could help people with these recipes, that they could make a difference for people like me who needed or wanted to cut carbs and sugar. And so EggLife was born."

EggLife egg white wraps are produced at EggLife’s newly constructed 60,000-square-foot production center in Wolcott, Ind. The wraps come in packages of six with a suggested retail price of $4.99 and are sold in the refrigerated section of Chicago-area Mariano’s and Jewel-Osco locations.
