Chobani unveils clean label yogurt

NEW BERLIN, N.Y. — A line of 100-calorie yogurt without artificial sweeteners is debuting from Chobani. Made with a proprietary blend of monk fruit, stevia leaf extract and evaporated cane juice, Chobani Simply 100 Greek yogurt contains 12 grams of protein and 5 grams of fiber per serving. Flavors include blueberry, strawberry, pineapple, peach, black cherry and vanilla.

The product will be available nationwide for a suggested retail price of $1.29 per cup beginning in December.

Kashi debuts globally inspired pizzas

BATTLE CREEK, MICH. — Kashi, a business unit of the Kellogg Co., is broadening its single-serve frozen pizza line with two globally-inspired vegetarian varieties: Greek Tzatziki and Tikka Masala. 

Greek Tzatziki is topped with spinach, artichokes, tomatoes, feta, mozzarella and a yogurt sauce flavored with cucumber, dill and garlic. Indian Tikka Masal has mozzarella, fire-roasted eggplant, spinach, tomatoes, crushed red pepper and a spicy Tikka Masala sauce.

Featuring crust made with whole grains, flax and sesame, the pizzas contain 17 to 18 grams of protein and 23 to 24 grams of whole grains per serving.

The products are available nationwide for a suggested retail price of $3.99.

ConAgra expands frozen lines

OMAHA — ConAgra Foods has expanded its Bertolli and P.F. Chang’s frozen meals and desserts.

New single-serve Bertolli Al Dente meals feature a tray-in-tray steam cooking method and are available in four varieties: chicken Florentine Alfredo, tortellini Margherita, asiago ravioli primavera and chicken carbonara.

Bertolli Rustico Bakes Meals include six single-serve varieties: chicken Parmigiana and penne, ricotta and spinach cannelloni, Italian sausage and meatball rigatoni, chicken portabella ravioli, stuffed shells alla vodka and creamy spinach rollatini. Four dual-serving options include manicotti alla vodka, stuffed shells Bolognese, ricotta and mozzarella ravioli and ziti alforno.

Additionally, Bertolli is adding three flavors to its Skillet Meals for Two line with Pappardelle Bolognese, ricotta and lobster ravioli, and chicken Margherita and penne. Joining the lineup of Bertolli single-serve frozen desserts are tiramisu, lemoncello, triple chocolate strata cake and cappuccino strata cake.

Bertolli Skillet Meals for Two and Rustico Bakes Meals for Two are available for approximately $5.99 per item. The Bertolli Meal for One and Rustico Bakes Meal for One are available at a suggested retail price of $3.59.  The desserts are sold at approximately $2.99.

ConAgra also is introducing a pair of options to its P.F. Chang’s Skillet Meals for Two line with Szechuan-style shrimp and Mongolian-style chicken. The P.F. Chang’s Skillet Meals for Two are available for approximately $7.99.

Olive Garden adds burger

ORLANDO, FLA. — Olive Garden is beefing up its menu with its first-ever burger. The Italiano Burger includes a 6-oz patty topped with prosciutto, mozzarella, arugula, basil-marinated tomatoes and a garlic aioli. The sandwich is served with Parmesan-garlic french fries.

Also new to the menu is a sausage and peppers sandwich, featuring Italian sausage and bell peppers topped with melted Italian cheeses and marinara sauce. The sandwich is served with Parmesan-garlic fries.

New items roll out at Panera Bread

ST. LOUIS — Panera Bread has launched a spate of seasonal and standby items, including a soup, sandwich and pasta.

The newest addition to the bakery-cafe’s popular pasta platform is chicken tortellini Alfredo, which pairs tortellini pasta filled with ricotta, Swiss and romano cheeses in an Alfredo sauce with smoked, pulled chicken and asiago-Parmesan cheese.

The fontina grilled cheese sandwich features Vermont white cheddar, fontina, reduced-fat chive and onion cream cheese spread and a four-cheese Italian blend on thick-sliced white Miche bread.

The country-style mushroom with truffle soup combines tender white mushrooms, onions and tomatoes simmered with cream and flavored with truffle, shallot puree and red wine.

Limited-time items include a cranberry walnut bagel, reduced-fat cranberry orange cream cheese, a red velvet crinkle cookie, and holiday bread, which has sweet egg dough mixed with honey, golden raisins, cranberries and chocolate chips, filled with chunky apples and cinnamon sugar and baked with a crumb topping and icing drizzle. Holiday beverages include peppermint mocha and a new hot chocolate with chocolate chip marshmallows.

Sour gum debuts from Mondelēz

EAST HANOVER, N.J. — Stride gum and Sour Patch Kids candy combine to create the latest innovation from Mondelēz International. Available in red berry and lime flavors, Stride Sour Patch Kids gum features the candy’s “sour, then sweet” flavor in gum form.

The product will be available nationwide beginning in January for a suggested retail price of $1.29 for a single pack and $2.89 for a multi-pack.

Snikiddy introduces soy ginger crisps

BOULDER, COLO. — Soy ginger crisps joins the Eat Your Vegetables line of simple-label snacks from Snikiddy. Made with eight vegetables, including kale, broccoli, spinach, tomatoes, sweet potatoes, navy beans, carrots and shitake mushrooms, each ounce of chips provides a full serving of vegetables.

With 3 grams of fiber and 3 grams of protein per serving, the product is free of gluten, wheat, bioengineered ingredients, peanuts and tree nuts. Other varieties include sea salt, sour cream and onion, jalapeno ranch, Italian herb and olive oil and sea salt and lime.

The soy ginger flavor is available exclusively at Kroger stores nationwide.

The Better Chip adds beet, chipotle flavors

LOS ANGELES — Beet and chipotle join the family of flavors from The Better Chip, a brand of snack chips made with non-bioengineered corn masa and vegetables from Fresh Gourmet L.L.C.

The chipotle flavor is made with red, ripened jalapeno peppers that are smoked over wood chips and crushed into whole-grain corn masa. The beet variety feature chopped fresh beets that are cooked in the chip.

Other varieties include jalapeno with sea salt, red peppers with salsa fresca, spinach and kale with sea salt, corn with sea salt and sweet onion with white cheddar.

The new flavors will be available beginning in early 2014 in supermarkets nationwide.

Moon Cheese launches

BLAIN, WASH. — Launching from NutraDried L.L.P., a partnership between EnWave Corp. and Lucid Management, is Moon Cheese, a crunchy, natural cheese snack. Shelf-stable and gluten-free, Moon Cheese is made with proprietary dehydration technology. Varieties include American cheddar, pepper jack and gouda.

“The healthy snacking trend continues to grow in North America as more and more consumers are becoming increasingly conscious about what they are putting in their bodies,” said Brent Charleton, vice-president of marketing for EnWave Corp.  “There is also attention being paid to the consumption of artificial and genetically modified ingredients. Moon Cheese consists only of 100% cheese, is gluten-free, high in calcium and a great source of protein. A single serving of Moon Cheese offers 5 grams of protein and 13% of the recommended daily calcium intake.”

Moon Cheese is available at select grocery stores in Washington, Idaho and Oregon, with increased distribution planned in the coming months.

Pasta-flavored chips debut

LOS ANGELES — Pasta Chips, a new reduced-fat snack chip line from Keen Marketing & Manufacturing, draws flavor inspiration from Tuscan sauces and tastes. Made with semolina flour, ancient grains and Italian herbs, the snack chips contain 4 grams of protein, 60% less fat than potato chips and 20% less fat than pita chips. Flavors include marinara, Alfredo, spicy tomato basil, garlic olive oil and Mediterranean sea salt.

Pasta Chips will be available at select retailers beginning in January.

Yoplait stirs in seasonal flavors

MINNEAPOLIS — Adding a minty twist to its Yoplait portfolio, General Mills, Inc. is introducing seasonal yogurt flavors. Yoplait Light mocha mint and Yoplait Original peppermint bark yogurt are available nationwide for a limited time.

“Yoplait’s consumers have enjoyed the spring and fall seasonal flavors and the demand continues to bring limited-time seasonal yogurts with trending flavors they desire,” said Blake Holman, associate marketing manager for Yoplait. “During the holidays, peppermint is a huge hit with consumers and our fans selected peppermint bark and mocha mint as the winter seasonal flavors they wanted Yoplait to make.”

Dominex introduces frozen vegetarian meals

ST. AUGUSTINE, FLA. — Dominex, a producer of eggplant products, is launching a line of frozen vegetarian entrees made with non-engineered ingredients.

Packaged in eco-friendly bowls and recyclable outer cartons, AngelBowls are available in five varieties: Mediterranean eggplant parmesan, roasted vegetable and goat cheese gratin, vegetable bruschetta and mozzarella, penne pasta in parma rosa sauce and corkscrew pasta with creamy tomato vodka sauce.

The meals are available at Sprouts Farmers Market stores for a suggested retail price of $4.49.
