DENVER — Taco Del Mar is taking the Beyond Meat Taco systemwide. The fast-casual chain announced it will offer the plant-based menu item at all locations for a limited time beginning Dec. 3, with the possibility of extended availability into the future.

The Beyond Meat Taco features Beyond Beef Feisty Crumbles, medium chipotle salsa, diced onions, serrano peppers, cheddar and Monterey jack cheese, lettuce, pico de gallo and jalapeños. Beyond Meat protein also is available for order in other menu items, including burritos, enchiladas, taco salads and quesadillas.

The company first began testing the Beyond Meat Taco in April. John D. Cappasola, president and chief executive officer at Taco Del Mar, said sales increases relating to the Beyond Meat Taco were largely due to trial on the part of existing meat-eating customers.

“We think it definitely has the ability to continue to drive sales as the market and consumers continue to become more familiar with plant-based protein,” he said during an Oct. 21 call with analysts. “It is a nice differentiator for us in the Mexican limited-service restaurant space.”
