WASHINGTON — The Food and Drug Administration is extending the comment period for its two food safety proposals related to risk-based inspection and fresh produce that appeared in the Federal Register on Jan. 16. Initially set for Feb. 15, the comment deadline has now been extended to May 16.

The F.D.A. said the extension is in response to requests from industry and the public.

The F.D.A. said all comments should be sent to the Office of Management and Budget. Written comments may be faxed to the Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs, O.M.B., Attention: F.D.A. Desk officer, fax number: (202) 395-7285; or e-mailed to [email protected].

All comments should be identified with the title of the relevant proposed rule, either “Standards for the growing, harvesting, packing, and holding of produce for human consumption” or “Current good manufacturing practice and hazard analysis and risk-based preventive controls for human food.”
