KANSAS CITY — A bowlful of innovation is joining the ready-to-eat cereal category.

General Mills, Inc. is spicing up its cereal portfolio with new Cinnamon Cheerios. Made with real cinnamon, the sweetened whole grain oat cereal is gluten-free and contains 140 calories, 12 grams of sugar and 3 grams of fiber per 1-cup serving.

“Cinnamon Cheerios are the perfect combination of real, delicious cinnamon and whole grain oats, which can help lower cholesterol as part of a heart healthy diet,” General Mills said. “They’re made for cereal lovers to enjoy in a variety of ways: with milk at the breakfast table, handheld for a tasty after-school snack or as an ingredient in trail mix or another favorite recipe.”

The Kellogg Co. is innovating with its Frosted Flakes brand with the introduction of Frosted Flakes with Tony the Tiger inspired marshmallows. The sweetened corn cereal includes four marshmallow shapes: orange Tony the Tiger, orange and white Power Paw, pink Sport Scarf, and orange and blue Sweet Swirl. Each 1.25-cup serving contains 150 calories and 12 grams of sugar.
