SEATTLE – Greenleaf Foods SPC, the plant-based protein business subsidiary of Maple Leaf Foods, Inc., has expanded its Field Roast Grain Meat Co. frozen foods portfolio with new Plant-Based Nuggets.

The crispy, bite-size nuggets are made from non-GMO, whole food ingredients such as roasted garlic, wheat and pea protein. Each five-nugget serving provides 14 grams of protein and contains 220 calories, 3 grams of fiber and less than 1 gram of sugar.

“Remember the joy that a chicken nugget could bring you as a kid?” said Dan Curtin, president of Greenleaf Foods. “We’re bringing that back with an absolutely delicious plant-based nugget that’s easy to prepare, flavorful on its own, yet still stands up to dips and sauces. And they’re not just for kids – adults are going to crave these, too.”

The vegan nuggets are packaged in 10-oz bags and are available in the frozen aisle at Albertson’s, Sobey’s and Price Chopper locations. Greenleaf plans to roll out the product to more retailers this summer and eventually offer the nuggets to foodservice operators.

Maple Leaf Foods launched Greenleaf Foods in October 2018, combining the Field Roast brand it acquired in December 2017 and the Lightlife Foods brand it acquired in March 2017 to create a new plant-based food company.
