LOS ANGELES — Outstanding Foods, maker of PigOut Pigless Pork Rinds, closed a $5 million funding round led by SternAegis Ventures.

The company launched its first line of meatless pork rinds earlier this year. Available in Texas BBQ, Nacho Cheese, Hella Hot and Original varieties, the snacks have the same protein content as beef and contain 100% plant-based ingredients. The products are made with rice, sunflower oil, pea protein and pea grits and are free from gluten, soy, GMOs, trans fats and cholesterol.

The latest backing will go toward new product launches, faster R&D, nationwide marketing and retail expansion, said Bill Glaser, co-founder and chief executive officer of Outstanding Foods.

“This funding provides us with the opportunity to reach more consumers and give them more ways to snack on great-tasting, healthy, plant-based snacks,” Mr. Glaser said. “Consumers have been freaking out over our PigOut Pigless Pork Rinds… Soon they’ll be able to experience other Outstanding snacks that we feel will be game changers.”

LA Laker JaVale McGee also participated in the round, adding to a roster of celebrity investors that includes Cesar Millan, Dierks Bentley, Alan Cumming, Jared Followill, Alexandra Paul and Emily Deschanel.
