MUSCATINE, IOWA — Maltodextrins and modified starches from Grain Processing Corp. (GPC) may add texture or deliver a creamy mouthfeel in plant-based products.

The company formulated a savory granola bar to showcase the ingredients at ShIFT20. The protein bar contained Maltrin SS glucose syrup for texture and to bind together the nuts, oats, seeds and other ingredients.

Incosity modified starch, made from US corn, added softness and prevented hardening. Together, the ingredients help improve moisture retention throughout shelf life, the company said.
