SAN FRANCISCO — Meal kit delivery company Thistle raised $10.3 million in a Series B funding round led by PowerPlant Ventures, with participation from Siddhi Capital, Alumni Ventures Group and Rich Products Corp.’s venture arm.

The company, which delivers tens of thousands of fully prepared plant-based meals to consumers each week, will use the funds to expand its geographic reach, including an additional production facility on the East Coast. With an eye toward reaching a bi-coastal footprint in 2021, the expansion will make Thistle available to millions of more customers, the company said.

Thistle recently expanded its West Coast presence with the addition of a new facility in Vacaville, Calif., that runs on 100% renewable solar and wind energy.

“Given rapidly shifting consumer preferences and factors like time or money that impact what foods we eat, Thistle is focused on expanding its operations to become the go-to meal solution that is better for you and for the planet,” said Ashwin Cheryian, co-founder and chief executive officer of Thistle. “The pandemic has revealed many challenges within the food system and increased awareness of the paramount role that diet plays in an individual’s health. We’re dedicated to making our products accessible to customers, empowering them to take their personal health by the reins and enjoy the ride, one bite at a time. With this funding, we’ll be able to support even more people through scientific, evidence-based principles of nutrition that lead to optimal wellness, enjoyable eating and a healthier planet.”

Proceeds from the Series B round also will go toward new customer offerings, including a complimentary virtual consultation with Thistle’s in-house registered dietitian. The resource will provide customers with access to a specialist offering guidance on how to achieve wellness goals through a plant-forward diet.

“We are deeply committed to our customers and to ensuring their experience with Thistle is delightful every time,” said Shiri Avnery, co-founder and chief operating officer of Thistle. “We review every piece of feedback and noticed a trend among Thistlers asking for additional support on how to live a healthier lifestyle. This sparked the inspiration for virtual consultations. We tested the program last fall, and the responses were overwhelmingly positive. We’re excited to be able to officially roll out the program to our customers this month.”
