ELMWOOD PARK, NJ. — Dr. Praeger’s Sensible Foods is entering the pizza category with three new plant-based pizza toppings available for foodservice.
Kosher certified and 100% vegan, the Meatless Pepperoni Slices, Meatless Sausage Toppings and Chick’n Strips contain zero cholesterol.
The Meatless Pepperoni Slices are made with wheat gluten, spices, dried onion, dried garlic and dried red bell peppers. Each 14-slice serving contains 80 calories, 9 grams of protein and 2.5 grams of fat. The slices contain 43% fewer calories, 81% less fat and 59% less sodium than the average pepperoni, Dr. Praeger’s said.
The Meatless Sausage Topping is made with soy protein, wheat gluten, potato starch, oat fiber, onion, garlic and spices. Each 8-piece serving contains 140 calories, 11 grams of protein and 8 grams of fat. The topping has 22% fewer calories, 53% less fat, 35% less sodium and 38% higher protein than regular mild sausage, according to the company.
The Chick’n Strips are made with soy protein, textured wheat protein, onion powder and natural flavors. Each 5-strip serving contains 160 calories, 19 grams of pea protein and 5 grams of fat.
“We’re thrilled to be expanding into the beloved pizza category and hope to see these new toppings on our favorite pizzas,” said Larry Praeger, chief executive officer of Dr. Praeger’s. “At Dr. Praeger’s, our mission has always been to provide a wide variety of delicious, clean, accessible, vegetable-focused foods. As the consumer appetite for plant-based protein sources grows, we are here to provide the variety they crave without sacrificing the integrity of our ingredients.”
Dr. Praeger’s plant-based pizza toppings are available in 10-lb frozen cases for foodservice on the company’s website.
