BOSTON — Beam, a direct-to-consumer brand offering THC-free CBD products, raised $6 million in a Series A funding round led by C2 Ventures.
The Yard Ventures and Litani Ventures, a fund created by RXBAR founder Peter Rahal, also participated in the round, along with Obvious Ventures, Camwood Capital and celebrity athletes Danica Patrick, Kevin Hayes and Brooks Laich.
The company will use funds from the Series A round to expand into the non-CBD wellness space, beginning with elevate, a line of hydrating beverage mixes. Formulated with coconut water, Himalayan sea salt, potassium bicarbonate and sodium hyaluronate, the beverage mixes are free from additives, excess sugars and fillers. They are available in three varieties, each designed for a specific use case.
The watermelon-flavored Performance formula features citrulline and beetroot powder to promote muscle growth. It also contains vitamin B and caffeine to enhance overall endurance. The mixed berry-flavored Balance formula contains vitamins D and K, along with an electrolyte powder containing essential probiotics and prebiotics, to support a healthy microbiome. The lemon-flavored Recovery formula features collagen peptides to promote healthy joints, skin, hair and nails, along with BCAA to help increase muscle growth, decrease muscle soreness and reduce exercise fatigue.
“A hydration mix was the most-requested product from our community during the past 12 months,” said Kevin Moran and Matt Lombardi, co-founders of beam. “Our community wasn’t happy with what was currently available in the hydration market, so we created something cleaner, more efficacious, and offered better benefits to the 75% of Americans who are chronically dehydrated.”
Elevate beverage mixes are available online in 15-serving single flavor packs and 30-serving variety packs. They are the first in a series of innovations aimed at furthering beam’s product pipeline into new verticals throughout the wellness space.
“I joined as an investor because beam is uniquely positioned to captain and create the next wave of the wellness movement,” said Chris Cunningham, partner at C2 Ventures. “I’m thrilled to share that beam is transcending the CBD category with its pioneering approach to CPG innovation and forging a new category opportunity with clean labeled hydration supplements.”
