AUSTIN, TEXAS — Rahul Shah has been named president and chief operating officer at GoodPop, a maker of better-for-you frozen treats.
Mr. Shah most recently was head of Ice Cream Now for the United States at Unilever PLC, where he oversaw the launch of The Ice Cream Shop, Unilever’s virtual ice cream store. Before that he was senior brand manager for the company’s frozen novelty brands, including Klondike, Popsicle and Good Humor. He also was an engagement manager at Booz & Co. and a senior associate at accounting firm KPMG.
“After meeting Rahul, we knew he was the right person to take GoodPop to the next level,” said Daniel Goetz, founder and chief executive officer of GoodPop. “He stood out for his overwhelming passion and enthusiasm for the category, and his broad range of experiences across technology, operations, finance and strategy.”
In his new role, Mr. Shah will oversee all departments as GoodPop aims to double its business in 2022. The company recently launched a direct-to-consumer platform, which gives customers across the continental United States access to all 19 GoodPop flavors. Already available through Instacart, GoPuff and Amazon Fresh, the brand also is planning to expand distribution via a variety of online marketplaces.
GoodPop last year went 100% plant-based for all of its products and launched new packaging that calls attention to its mission to “Pledge Good. Do Good. Feel Good.” It recently added a line of organic Twin Pops available in Sweet Cherry, Valencia Orange and Concord Grape varieties. The Twin Pops contain no added sugar and join an existing collection of dairy-free and vegan flavors, including Dreamy Orange Push Pops, Coldbrew Latte and Strawberry Shortcake.
“GoodPop has redefined the frozen novelties category with its delicious, unique flavors, better-for-you products and elevated sourcing standards, all while using frozen treats as a vehicle to do social and environmental good,” Mr. Shah said. “With plant-based novelties being the fastest growing segment in the ice cream category and online ice cream sales booming, people are shopping for and discovering products in new ways.”
