CHESTERFIELD, VA. – Sabra Dipping Co. has opened a research and development facility at the site of its Chesterfield County, Va., hummus manufacturing plant. Sabra’s Center of Excellence will improve manufacturing and distribution capabilities and support Obela, the international venture between PepsiCo, Inc. and Strauss Group.

“We are honored to partner with Obela to push the envelope in research and development, opening a world of possibilities in dips and spreads in terms of innovation, taste, health and more,” said Ronen Zohar, chief executive officer of Sabra.

The first-of-its-kind center for refrigerated dips and spreads will house experts in culinary arts, food technology and nutrition. Additionally, the facility will enable global expansion for Obela, which launched in Mexico in 2012.

Sabra also has announced plans to expand its manufacturing plant. The $86 million project is expected to add an estimated 140 jobs over the next few years.
