SAN FRANCISCO — MISTA, a San Francisco-based innovation platform, launched a high-performance plant-based yogurt base, its first member-co-created product.

The yogurt base was co-created by AAK, Chr. Hansen, Givaudan and Ingredion, Inc. It brings together several technologies, including plant-based pea and fava proteins from Ingredion and protein binder and flavor masking solutions from Givaudan. Texturizing cultures from Chr. Hansen enhance protein and starch performance to create an appealing mouthfeel, while AAK’s functional combination of fats gives the yogurt a dairy-like taste.

Brands may use the product to accelerate their time to market and tweak the formulation to meet their specific requirements, according to MISTA. Samples of the plant-based yogurt base are available for customers in the United States, Europe and some parts of Latin America.

Launched in 2018 by Givaudan, MISTA brings together the expertise of large food and beverage companies with selected startups to optimize ideas and products geared toward solving current and future industry challenges.
