WASHINGTON — More than 120 emerging brands will be featured at Pop Up Grocer when the monthlong retail concept opens May 6 in Washington’s Union Market neighborhood. Local makers include District Snacks, Amazi and Phil’s Finest, alongside direct-to-consumer companies such as Bonbuz, Opopop and Nowadays.

Pop Up Grocer, described by its founder as “the first experience-oriented grocery store” and a destination where shoppers discover new products from the “buzziest brands on Instagram,” has opened shops in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Miami and Austin, Texas. A portion of profits from sales are donated to The Pop Up Grocer Fund, which supports emerging consumer products brands.

“We’re excited to return to the East Coast and to open in the Union Market District, specifically,” said Emily Schildt, founder of Pop Up Grocer. “Anchored by what is arguably the culinary destination in DC, the neighborhood is alive with creativity. DC’s food scene has become a national treasure. Over the past decade, there’s been a wave of risk-taking chefs opening new concepts, alongside tenured fine dining and real-deal multicultural restaurants. It’s an honor to contribute to DC’s innovative spirit, if only for a brief period of time.”

The store will be open seven days a week from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. through June 5.
