LOS ANGELES — De Soi, a maker of non-alcoholic aperitifs, raised $4 million in seed funding. The startup will use the injection of capital to expand its retail footprint nationwide.

Co-founded by singer Katy Perry and master distiller Morgan McLachlan, De Soi debuted earlier this year with a line of low-calorie, adaptogen-infused sparkling beverages. The Los Angeles-based brand has captured wholesale accounts including Foxtrot, Erewhon, Boisson and Total Wine since launching in January. Its products also are available direct-to-consumer, on Amazon and in other retail locations throughout California.

De Soi’s sparkling beverages serve as an alternative to alcohol, contain no refined sugar and are available in three varieties. Golden Hour is a “bright and zesty” concoction made with maca and L-Theanine from green tea. It features notes of warm citrus, lemongrass and leafy herbs. Purple Lune is made with ashwagandha and tart cherry and features notes of blackberry nectar, vanilla oak and rose petals. Champignon Dream contains reishi mushroom and passionflower. It features notes of strawberries, bitter grapefruit and earth.

The brand was built on Ms. Perry and Ms. McLachlan’s shared love for a spritz and mutual desire for a drink that was bubbly and tasty but aligned with their passion for plant-based and better-for-you choices.

“During and after my pregnancy, I went through a prolonged dry period,” Ms. McLachlan said. “I didn’t miss alcohol per se, but I did find that I missed the ritual of enjoying the complexity of a nice glass of wine or having an elegant cocktail as a way to unwind after work. I wanted the fun and sophistication of a drink without the alcohol.”

Ms. McLachlan brings a decade of experience working with botanical spirits to De Soi. Ms. Perry has used her global platform to support wellness-focused ventures. She sits on the board of Bragg, a brand of organic apple cider vinegar, and is a key investor for Impossible Foods and Apeel Sciences.

“I would define wellness as caring for yourself in the best way you know how without sacrificing life’s simplest pleasures, and that is exactly what we want to offer,” Ms. Perry said. “De Soi is all about balance.”

The $4 million seed round was led by Willow Growth with participation from Creative Arts Agency.
