NEW HAMPTON, NY. — Balchem Corp., a global special ingredients supplier, has acquired Cardinal Associates Inc., Vancouver, Wash., operating as Bergstrom Nutrition, for an undisclosed sum.

Bergstrom, through its OptiMSM brand, specializes in the production of methylsulfonylmethane (MSM) using a proprietary, multi-stage distillation process.

“As the MSM market leader, Bergstrom Nutrition has excelled in advancing the science and presence of MSM globally,” said Ted Harris, chief executive officer and president of Balchem. “The addition of OptiMSM to our portfolio provides a synergistic scientific advantage in Balchem’s key strategic therapeutic focus areas such as longevity and performance.”

As a widely used nutritional ingredient, MSM offers functional benefits for joint health, sports nutrition and healthy aging, according to Bergstrom.

Balchem will add Bergstrom to its human nutrition and health business unit, which delivers customized food and beverage ingredient systems, once the acquisition is finalized.

“OptiMSM aligns well with Balchem’s already robust portfolio and complements their strategic health benefit platforms,” said Adrian Polliack, chief executive officer and president of Bergstrom. “Joining Balchem allows for accelerated growth and market reach, and we look forward to working together with the Balchem team.”
