HUTCHINSON, KAN. — Alternative protein producer Kansas Protein Foods has developed a plant-based sausage crumbles product.
Marking the newest entry in the company’s Imagic line of meat substitutes, the ready-to-eat crumbles are derived from soy flour. The product has been formulated to resemble the taste, texture and aroma of conventional cooked sausage and comes in a shelf-stable format. Due to their unique structure, the crumbles are also able to easily hydrate and retain moisture throughout processing and cooking.
Kansas Protein’s sausage is designed to be a cost-effective and versatile meat replacement, with a variety of applications, including gravies, sauces, casseroles and pizzas. The development comes shortly after the company was acquired by ADM in January 2023.
