Red Baron adds three pizzas

MINNEAPOLIS – Schwan’s Consumer Brands is expanding its Red Baron frozen pizza line with a fire-baked spicy pepperoni pizza topped with jalapenos and chipotle sauce and a Hawaiian-style pizza with pineapple and Canadian bacon in deep dish single-serving and classic crust varieties.

The pizzas are available nationwide for a suggested retail price of $3.50 to $4.50.

MorningStar Farms goes Greek

BATTLE CREEK, MICH. – MorningStar Farms, a Kellogg Co. brand, is launching a Mediterranean chickpea veggie burger. Packed with spinach, Roma tomatoes and Greek herbs spices, the patties contain 10 grams of protein and 70% less fat than regular ground beef.

The new variety joins a lineup that also includes chipotle black bean burgers, Asian veggie patties and tomato and basil pizza burgers.

The product is available nationwide.

Jolly Time debuts Smart Balance popcorn

SIOUX CITY, IOWA – Jolly Time Pop Corn is introducing microwave popcorn made with Smart Balance’s patented blend of oils.

In butter and light butter varieties, the products contain zero grams of trans fat and no hydrogenated or partially hydrogenated oils.

Pop! Gourmet Popcorn launches spicy popcorn line

KENT, WASH. – African Peri Peri, Chinese 12-Spice and Smoky Barbecue with Northwest Cheddar are the latest flavors from Pop! Gourmet Popcorn.

The new Rub with Love line, inspired by celebrity chef Tom Douglas’ meat and fish rubs of the same name, features tender butterfly popcorn kernels and savory seasonings.

Other handcrafted flavors from the company include white truffle, chocolate salted caramel and cookies and cream.

Foster Farms introduces oven-ready entrees

LIVINGSTON, CALIF. – Foster Farms is introducing oven-ready chicken entrees in chile verde, roasted red pepper, Buffalo, zesty Thai and honey roasted garlic varieties. Each entree contains two 99% fat-free fresh chicken breasts with sauce in a recyclable, oven-safe tray.

The product line is available in the fresh poultry section at retailers throughout the western United States.

Sneaky Chef Foods unveils vegetable-based sauces and spread

TARRYTOWN, N.Y. – Sneaky Chef Foods, L.L.C. is launching vegetable-based pasta sauces and a nut-free butter spread.

In regular and cheesy varieties, the sauces contain tomatoes, cauliflower, zucchini, carrots, sweet potatoes, belly peppers, yellow squash, celery and onions.

The no-nut butter is made with golden peas and has a peanut butter flavor. The spread is 100% free of peanuts, tree nuts and soy.

Designed to add more vegetables to children’s diets, the products are gluten-free with no added sugar, corn syrup, artificial colors or flavors or MSG.

The sauces and spread are available at select grocery and natural retailers for a suggested retail price of $3.99 and $6.99, respectively.

The Lovely Candy Co. rolls out gluten-free candies

CHICAGO – The Lovely Candy Co. is launching a line of gluten-free candies, including licorice, caramels and fruit chews.

Mike Nakamura, chief executive officer, developed the products for his wife, who loves licorice but discovered that traditional brands don’t meet her gluten-free needs. The candies also are bioengineered-free and certified kosher.

The product line is set to launch at select retailers in June.

Monk Fruit In The Raw debuts

BROOKLYN, N.Y. – Cumberland Packing Corp. is expanding its In The Raw brand with a low-calorie monk fruit-based sweetener for baking.

Monk Fruit In The Raw does not contain cane sugar, sugar alcohol or molasses. It may be used as an alternative to sugar in cooking and baking recipes.

The product, which originally launched in individual packets last year, is available nationwide for a suggested retail price of $7.99 for a 4.8-oz bag.

Nu-Tek develops lower-sodium salt blend

MINNETONKA, MINN. – Nu-Tek Food Science is introducing Salt for Life, a sea salt blend with 70% less sodium than table salt.

The product was developed with patented technology to improve the flavor of potassium chloride and may be used as a one-to-one replacement for salt in recipes.

The product is currently available for food service and will roll out to select grocery retailers beginning this summer.
