Pacific Foods dishes up organic beans

TUALATIN, ORE. — In time for cookout season, Pacific Foods is launching organic, slow-cooked beans in B.P.A.-free cartons. Varieties include refried pinto beans, refried black beans with green chiles and baked beans with pork, as well as vegetarian varieties of refried pinto beans, refried black beans and baked beans.

“Beans are such a basic staple in everyone’s pantry; we wanted to make the best product people could buy,” said Kevin Tisdale, vice-president of marketing for Pacific Foods. “Our organic ingredients are carefully sourced from non-G.M.O. farms and suppliers, slowly cooked and sealed at the height of perfection.”

The products are available at Whole Foods Markets nationwide for a suggested retail price of $2.69 to $2.99.

 

Hiland Dairy adds iced coffee

SPRINGFIELD, MO. — Hiland Dairy Foods is debuting iced coffee in mocha, caramel and vanilla flavors. Packaged in half-gallon cartons, each variety contains 130 calories and 1.5 grams of fat per serving.

The products are available at Midwest retailers.

 

J&J Snack Foods launches Greek yogurt sorbet swirl

PENNSAUKEN, N.J. — J&J Snack Foods is unveiling Whole Fruit brand frozen Greek yogurt swirled with sorbet in raspberry, strawberry and mango flavors. Packaged in resealable, individual portions, each serving contains 100 calories, 4 grams of protein and probiotics.

“The increased prominence of Greek yogurt and the popularity of portion controlled frozen novelties has led Whole Fruit down this logical path,” said Ernest Fogle, vice-president of research and development.

The products are available nationwide.

 

Silly Shapes lollipops debut

NEW WINDSOR, N.Y. — Mom’ N Pops, Inc. is expanding its lollipop selection with Silly Shapes soft candy pops in chocolate and vanilla flavors. The certified-kosher candies come in eight geometric shapes with funny faces.

The products are available through the manufacturer (www.momnpops.com) for a suggested retail price of $1.50 to $2 each.

 

Dutch Farms introduces Deli Reserve cheese

CHICAGO — Dutch Farms, a Midwest dairy company, is launching its Deli Reserve line of cheese in grab-and-go packs and bulk varieties.

Deli Reserve 8-oz resealable shingle packs include aged, premium gouda, provolone, baby Swiss, New York extra sharp, deluxe American and muenster cheeses. Behind the counter, bulk options include preservative-free muenster, brick, Colby, pepper jack, mild cheddar, mozzarella and provolone.

The line is available in select retailers in the Chicago area and throughout Eastern states.

 

Veggie Poppers roll out

SAN DIEGO — Biosilo Foods, Inc. is adding Veggie Poppers to its snack offerings. In lemon-kale and spinach-cranberry varieties, the bite-size clusters of grains, nuts, fruit and vegetables contain no trans fats, bioengineered ingredients or artificial ingredients or flavors. Veggie Poppers are gluten-free and dairy-free.

“Veggie Poppers are very unique,” said Keith Mullin, founder of Biosilo Foods. “Our patent-pending technology infuses a bountiful mix of vegetables in every popper.”

The product line will be available beginning in August.

 

Mars expands Combos line

HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. — Mars Chocolate North America, a division of Mars, Inc., is expanding its Combos line of baked snacks with a seven-layer dip variety. The product features flavors of cheddar cheese, sour cream, avocado, tomato, refried beans, onion and jalapeno packed into a tortilla shell.

Other varieties in the Combos line include cheddar cheese pretzel, pizzeria pretzel, cheddar cheese cracker and Buffalo blue cheese pretzel.

The new flavor is available in individual and medium bags at convenience stores and supermarkets nationwide.

Johnsonville adds two limited-time sausage flavors

SHEBOYGAN FALLS, WIS. — Pepper jack cheese and mushroom and Swiss join the lineup of smoked-cooked sausage varieties from Johnsonville Sausage, L.L.C.

Available through Labor Day in select grocery stores, the gluten-free sausages contain premium cuts of pork and no fillers.

 

Kashi expands cereals

BATTLE CREEK, MICH. — Kashi has introduced GoLean Vanilla Graham Clusters, a new cereal that features 11 grams of protein and 9 grams of fiber.

Kashi GoLean Vanilla Graham Clusters contains a blend of naturally sweetened fiber twigs with graham flavor, soy protein squares, Kashi 7 Whole Grain honey puffs and crunchy oat clusters with vanilla.

Vanilla Graham Clusters cereal is free of synthetic colors and artificial flavors, preservatives or sweeteners and contains no high-fructose corn syrup. It is available at grocers and natural food retailers nationwide for a standard retail price of $3.99.

Oogave introduces diet organic sodas

DENVER — Organic soda maker Oogave is launching a diet soda line called LOCA in select markets. Sweetened with agave nectar and stevia, 10-calorie LOCA is available in cola, root beer and ginger ale flavors. The company also is expanding distribution of its bottled Oogave line of sodas in Super Target stores nationwide. Flavors include watermelon cream, strawberry rhubarb, mandarin key lime, grapefruit, vanilla cream, root beer, cola and ginger ale.

The LOCA line is available in Fresh Market stores nationwide and in Whole Foods locations in Northern California.

 

Dee Amoré debuts baked french fries

LIBERTYVILLE, ILL. — Hitting freezer cases in July are Simply Baked frozen french fries from Dee Amoré, a Mr. Dee’s, Inc. brand.

Crinkle-cut Pacific Northwest Russet potatoes are baked with a sprinkle of sea salt and contain less than 1 gram of fat and 90 calories per serving.

The product will be available in select grocery and club stores.

 

General Mills extends Nature Valley line

MINNEAPOLIS — General Mills, Inc. has expanded its Nature Valley line with Soft-Baked Oatmeal Squares and Protein Granola.

In peanut butter and cinnamon brown sugar varieties, Soft-Baked Oatmeal Squares are made with 100% natural whole grain oats and are soft-baked. Each square contains 12 to 16 grams of whole grains and is 160 calories or less. The oatmeal squares have a suggested retail price of $3.89 for a six-bar box.

Protein Granola is made with natural ingredients, and each serving contains 10 grams of protein and at least 23 grams of whole grain. The product is available in oats and honey and oats and dark chocolate varieties. The granola has a suggested retail price of $4.49 for an 11-oz bag.

 

Chuck E. Cheese’s Yogurt Squeezes premiere

DALLAS — Chuck E. Cheese’s has licensed a squeezable yogurt product for retail.

Chuck E. Cheese’s Yogurt Squeezes contain 70 calories and are available in strawberry, blueberry, melon berry and cotton candy flavors. The company also has a branded line of string cheese snacks.

Yogurt Squeezes are available in select Wal-Mart Stores nationwide.

 

Sonic adds limited-time items

OKLAHOMA CITY — An Asiago Caesar Chicken Club sandwich and cinnamon roll breakfast bites are the latest limited-time offerings from Sonic Drive-In.

The Asiago Caesar Chicken Club contains grilled or crispy chicken on a whole grain ciabatta bun with tangy Asiago cheese, Caesar dressing, crispy bacon, tomatoes and lettuce.

“We worked with many different ingredients to determine the most flavorful additions to the classic chicken club, and created one of my favorite sandwiches yet,” said Claes Petersson, vice-president of product innovation at Sonic Corp. “I am especially proud of our signature Caesar dressing sauce. It is an aioli base, which means garlic mayonnaise in French, and it’s one of my all-time favorite sauces. The crispy bacon addition takes it to an even higher level.”

Cinnasnacks are bite-sized inside-out cinnamon rolls in 3- or 5-count sizes with cream cheese frosting for dipping.

Both items are available all day at locations nationwide.

 

South Beach Diet beefs up bar offerings
