NEW YORK — Paro, a South Asian comfort food brand, introduced three product offerings, designed to be a simple meal solution for at-home cooking.
The line of pantry staples and meal starters, which initially launched in February 2023, are inspired by founder and chief executive officer Umaimah Sharwani’s family’s beloved Pakistani recipes, said Sharwani. She named the brand after her mother, Paro, as an ode to her and her cooking.
The line of plant-based offerings, which can come together in 30 minutes with light cooking and water, includes three products:
- Masoor daal: a dish of red lentils that includes an early blend of spices and has 14 grams of protein and 7 grams of fiber per meal.
- Kitchari: a lentil meal featuring seven spices, basmati rice and mung bean and also includes 5 grams of fiber and 9 grams of protein.
- Tarka: a spicy topping like a chili crisp, made from a combination of spices, ghee and grapeseed oil. Paro’s mix includes garlic, red chili, cumin seeds, singer and curry leaves.
The products may be purchased direct-to-consumer at fromparo.com for a suggested retail price of $10 for the masoor daal and kitchari, $16 for the tarka oil, or $45 for a bundle of all three.
