SAN CLEMENTE, CALIF. — FreshRealm Inc. is acquiring all of the US-based operational assets and supply chain infrastructure from meal kit maker Marley Spoon. The $24 million deal includes three of Marley Spoon’s production facilities in Newark, NJ; Dallas; and Tracy, Calif.

Marley Spoon’s recently acquired BistroMD, a ready-to-eat meal provider for weight management, also will join FreshRealm’s portfolio. As part of the transaction, the companies additionally have entered into a strategic partnership where FreshRealm will handle all of Marley Spoon’s US operational and fulfillment activities.

“This strategic partnership with Marley Spoon marks a significant milestone for FreshRealm in shaping the future of the fresh meals solutions space and transforming this $900 billion market,” said Michael Lippold, founder and chief executive officer of FreshRealm. “We are thrilled to empower meal providers like Marley Spoon and BistroMD with what they need to deliver on scale and efficiency. Our partnership will supercharge these established meal providers’ ability to build innovative offerings for their customers and lead to broader innovation in the fresh meals industry.”

The deal follows a $50 million acquisition of operational assets from Blue Apron in May of last year. FreshRealm’s recent investments will enable the production of approximately 100 million fresh meals annually, according to the company.
