LONDON — In conjunction with The Coca-Cola Co., PureCircle, Ltd. is seeking global intellectual property coverage on Rebaudioside X, a stevia extract, according to a July 1 PureCircle announcement on the London Stock Exchange. Rebaudioside X has received self-affirmed Generally Recognized As Safe (GRAS) status.

PureCircle on May 23 made a GRAS filing with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for the use of purified steviol glycosides with Rebaudioside X as the principal component as an ingredient in food.

On Sept. 28, 2012, PureCircle and The Coca-Cola Co., Atlanta, entered a joint agreement to investigate and develop a stevia sweetener product as a commercially viable food ingredient. PureCircle, which is based in Malaysia and has a U.S. office in Oak Brook, Ill., produces stevia ingredients for the global food and beverage industry.
