KANSAS CITY — Foodservice chains are rolling out seasonal menu innovations with fall flavors.

Krispy Kreme is jumping into the pumpkin spice arena with two returning offerings. The pumpkin spice cake donut combines a glazed, old fashioned cake donut with pumpkin spice flavors. The pumpkin spice latte infuses pumpkin spice flavor notes into the Krispy Kreme latte format, with hot, iced and frozen varieties.

“It’s August and we’re all ready for pumpkin spice, somehow,” said Dave Skena, global chief brand officer at Krispy Kreme. “Our fans want their Krispy Kreme pumpkin spice cake donut and latte right now, and we’re here for it. Stay tuned though, we’re not done spicing up the season.”

Drive-thru coffee chain The Human Bean has released three fall beverage menu additions. The Pumpkin Snowy features espresso, white chocolate and pumpkin flavors, whipped cream and cinnamon sprinkles, and the Smores Mocha mixes toasted marshmallow, chocolate and whipped cream with graham cracker sprinkles. Both beverages are available in hot, iced and blended varieties. The Pumpkin Java Chip merges a blended java chip base with pumpkin drizzle and whipped cream in a smoothie or coffee-based granita format.

“Pumpkin drinks are a beloved fall tradition, with their popularity reaching new heights each year,” said Janie Page, chief marketing officer at The Human Bean.

Cracker Barrel is aiming to offer an alternative to the influx of pumpkin spice offerings with a series of menu items inspired by apple flavors. The signature fired apple french toast bake features country bread dipped in vanilla custard topped with cheesecake filling, a brown sugar streusel, and the chain’s signature fried apples. The southern apple cobbler contains cinnamon apples surrounded with a buttery crust, a scoop of vanilla ice cream and a caramel drizzle. The Granny Smith apple mimosa is a mix of sparkling wine with a Granny Smith apple puree, and Granny Smith apple tea combines the same puree with Cracker Barrel’s iced tea recipe. The cobbler and both beverages are available for a limited time until Oct. 20.

“As autumn approaches, guests are seeking flavors beyond the standard pumpkin spice and we know they’re ready for warm comfort food to accompany cooler temperatures outside,” said, Julia Perry, vice president of marketing communications for Cracker Barrel.
