ELMA, NY. – Plant-based dairy manufacturer Elmhurst 1925 is entering the plant-based meat category with TerraMeat Plant-Based Chick’n. The product offers 26 grams of protein and is formulated from hemp protein. The company recently added its first food product dairy-free Elmhurst Sour Cream, which also was formulated from oat milk and hemp protein.

To create its plant-based chicken product, Elmhurst said it used its HydroRelease method, which involves starting with hemp grain and using water to release its protein into a digestible and functional powder.

TerraMeat starts as a dry powder, enabling consumers to create their own plant-based chicken at home. Consumers blend the powder into water and add an oil and spice blend then heat it in the microwave. Once heated, consumers may grill, bake, braise or fry the product, according to the company.

Elmhurst is primarily known for its plant-based milk and dairy offerings, but said its mission is to set a new clean-label standard for plant-based foods in every category it enters.

“With the launch of Elmhurst 1925 TerraMeat Plant-Based Chick’n, we are bringing the same innovation and commitment to quality that we brought to plant-based dairy,” said Henry Schwartz, chief executive officer of Elmhurst 1925. “Consumers are increasingly seeking simple ingredients and clean-label alternatives to the ultra-processed options on the market.”
