KANSAS CITY — Entrepreneurs are experimenting in the breakfast aisle with convenient, organic and protein-centric offerings.

Belgian Boys has expanded its refrigerated breakfast portfolio with two on-the-go product lines. The company’s Breakfast All Day boxes feature miniature waffles and dried cranberries in two varieties. The Pancakes & Go line offers nine miniature bite-size pancakes in a cup format that may be prepared with 45 seconds of microwaving. Flavor varieties include Belgian chocolate chip butter, maple butter and sprinkles butter.

“As our stress-free, mess-free breakfast options have grown more popular, we’ve heard from our consumers that they need an even easier on-the-go solution,” said Anouck Gotlib, chief executive officer of Belgian Boys.

Direct-to-consumer children’s food company Little Spoon debuted organic oatmeal baby cereal for infants aged four months and older. The product is formulated from ancient grains, like barley and millet, contains no added sugars, rice or the top nine allergens, and comes packaged in a resealable bag. Each serving contains 14 grams of whole grains and 13 essential vitamins and minerals, according to the company.

“At Little Spoon, we saw a clear need to innovate in the baby cereal space to ensure a safe, nutritious and high-quality offering for nourishing first bites,” said Angela Vranich, co-founder and chief product officer of Little Spoon. “Baby cereal is often the first food parents introduce, so transparency and the highest of safety standards is critical to us.”

ChiChi Foods is bringing chickpeas to breakfast with its hot cereal. The product was designed as a convenient, “better-for-you” take on oatmeal, offering 10 to 11 grams of protein per serving, 3 grams of added sugar and 6 grams of fiber. ChiChi’s oatmeal comes in a dried powder format that can be combined with milk or water and heated in the microwave or on the stovetop, with flavors like maple syrup, apple pie, banana bread and original.
