KANSAS CITY — Mondelez International, Inc. has continued to expand its snack portfolio over 2024 through co-branded products, exploring new formats and innovative flavors.
In August, Mondelez and The Coca-Cola Co. announced a limited-time partnership to create a series of Oreo and Coca-Cola mashups. Products included the Oreo Coca-Cola Sandwich Cookie, a classic Oreo cookie infused with the Coca-Cola beverage taste and sprinkled with red edible glitter, and Coca-Cola Oreo Zero Sugar soda, merging the Coca-Cola Zero beverage formulation with hints of Oreo cookie flavor, according to the companies. Convenience chain 7-Eleven, Inc. also jumped onto the collaboration with the debut of its limited-time Coca-Cola Oreo Zero Sugar Slurpee variety.
“These types of investments not only enable us to stay top of mind for consumers, but also to strengthen partnerships with key retailers,” said Dirk Van de Put, chairman and chief executive officer of Mondelez, talking about the Oreo Coca-Cola collaboration in an Oct. 29 conference call. “Along with these marketing activations, we are continuing to strengthen store availability, visibility and execution around the world.”
Mondelez aimed to appeal to larger appetites with the launch of Big Chewy Cookies under its Chips Ahoy! cookie brand. The cookies were designed to be three times larger than standard Chips Ahoy! Chewy cookies, with chocolate chips that are also larger than standard Chips Ahoy! chocolate chips. The cookies launched in flavors such as chocolate brownie, with a brownie-flavored base, and chocolate caramel, which contains both caramel-flavored chips and Chips Ahoy! chocolate chips.
The Chips Ahoy! brand was also the center of allergen-friendly product formulation with the introduction of the brand’s first certified gluten-free cookie in May. The permanent addition to the brand’s lineup is derived from a blend of rice flour and oat flour.
“When we set out to create our first Chips Ahoy! gluten-free cookie, we didn’t want it to be a good gluten-free cookie, we wanted it to be a great cookie that’s also gluten-free,” said Jainette Quinones, brand manager of innovation at Chips Ahoy!. “I am proud to say that our innovation team has succeeded — the new Chips Ahoy! gluten-free cookie is an absolutely delicious cookie that everyone can enjoy.”
