WASHINGTON — Peanut butter maker One Trick Pony has received an undisclosed amount of seed funding led by the Collaborative Fund, a venture capital firm focused on providing seed and early stage funding to technology companies. Other One Trick Pony investors include Magic Spoon founders Gabi Lewis and Greg Sewitz, immi founders Kevin Lee and Kevin Chan and Sweetgreen co-founder Nic Jammet.
The company, which was founded in 2022 by brother-and-sister entrepreneurs Lucy Dana and Andrew Dana along with Daniela Moreira, will use the funds to scale production, expand distribution channels and launch targeted marketing campaigns to introduce the company to consumers and families, according to the company.
One Trick Pony said its differentiation in the peanut butter category is how it formulates its product from two ingredients, Argentinian peanuts and Patagonian sea salt. The company said its peanuts are sourced from Cordoba, Argentina.
The company’s product line includes three peanut butter varieties: crunchy peanut butter, unsalted peanut butter and smooth peanut butter. The line also includes crispy peanut butter chocolate chip cookies, single-serve peanut butter packets and 9-lb peanut butter tubs.
“We’re thrilled to team up with Collaborative Fund and a stable of successful entrepreneurs and angel investors who aren’t horsing around when it comes to bringing our peanut butter to market,” Lucy Dana said. “Their track record in the CPG (consumer packaged goods) space is a real thoroughbred pedigree. We’re not putting the cart before the horse, but with their help, we’re ready to stir up some serious growth and show the competition who’s boss.”
The company said it also formulates its peanut butter without hydrogenated oils or added sugars.Enjoying this content? Learn about more disruptive startups on the Food Entrepreneur page.
