KANSAS CITY — As consumers continue to demonstrate interest in sober lifestyle trends, manufacturers are expanding their portfolios of non-alcoholic beers and mocktails.
Anheuser-Busch is debuting its first alcohol-free product under its Michelob Ultra brand next year. The beer is brewed through an alcohol-removing process that results in zero percent alcohol by volume and 29 calories per serving. Anheuser-Busch plans to release the product in 12-pack quantities beginning in January 2025, with 6-pack quantities expected to debut in March 2025.
“Our focus is always on our consumers and ensuring that we continue to invest and innovate in growing segments to meet their needs,” said Kyle Norrington, chief commercial officer of Anheuser-Busch. “As the non-alcohol beer category continues to grow, there couldn’t be a better time to unveil a superior alcohol-free brew for consumers.”
Chicago-based Molson Coors Beverage Co. has partnered with Naked Life, an Australian non-alcoholic cocktail manufacturer, to bring Naked Life’s ready-to-drink mocktail portfolio to the United States. The product line is formulated from distilled botanicals and natural sweeteners, with 10 calories per serving. Non-alcoholic varieties slated to roll out in 2025 include mojito, negroni spritz, gin and tonic, cosmo and margarita.
“Consumers want more than just an alternative,” said Kevin Nitz, vice president of non-alcoholic beverages for Molson Coors. “They want a sophisticated, great-tasting option that aligns with their lifestyle. Naked Life provides a high-quality non-alcoholic cocktail, delivering an experience of the best alcohol-based versions.”
Aplós, a maker of non-alcoholic beverages, launched a line of functional ready-to-drink mocktails. The beverages utilize botanicals such as hemp and adaptogens, according to the company. Products in the line include the ume spritz, with ume plum, oroblanco grapefruit, white tea, sea buckthorn and Aplós’ non-alcoholic spirit Calme, and the chili margarita, featuring mandarin, Persian lime, orange habanero, sea salt and Aplós' non-alcoholic spirit Arise.
“Eight percent of our customers have told us they've meaningfully reduced their alcohol intake, and are constantly looking for new, functional cocktails,” said Emily Onkey and David Fudge, co-founder of Aplós. “Our industry continues to grow rapidly with millions of people seeking alcohol alternatives and our mission is to create complex flavor profiles that rival the artisanal cocktail experience without the hangover and negative health effects.”
