TRAVERSE CITY, MICH. — The Cherry Industry Administrative Board (CIAB), the administrative arm of the Federal Marketing Order for tart cherries in the United States, and the Cherry Marketing Institute (CMI), a research and promotion organization that represents cherry growers in Michigan, New York, Wisconsin and Utah, has named Amy Cohn, RDN, as its new president. Cohn will provide oversight and insight on CIAB’s national promotion, health and research and education programs while working in collaboration with the US Department of Agriculture.
“Amy brings a distinct blend of strategic vision, nutritional expertise and a deep understanding of consumer trends,” said Melanie LaPerriere, vice chairwoman of the Cherry Marketing Institute and president and chief executive officer of Cherry Central. “She is the right person at the right moment to lead the US tart cherry industry. Her passion for innovation and collaboration line up perfectly with our industry’s commitment to ensure tart cherries remain, and grow, as part of a beloved and essential part of nutritious diets nationwide.”
Cohn joins the organizations from General Mills, where she most recently was senior manager, portfolio nutrition and external affairs US cereal.
Cohn was with General Mills for approximately 17 years holding several leadership roles, including senior nutrition scientist and communications manager for Bell Institute of Health and Nutrition.
