KANSAS CITY — Manufacturers in the soups, broths and chilis segment are exploring international flavors, protein-rich formulations and convenient formats.
Amy’s Kitchen, for example, debuted a line of soups made from organic ingredients and hearty grains. Inspired by Italian cuisine, Amy’s pasta fagioli soup mixes tubetti pasta, cannellini beans and vegetables in an herb-infused tomato broth, and the company’s dal makhani soup, inspired by North Indian-flavors, combines red kidney beans, black urad dal and aromatic spices.
Additionally, the launch includes vegetable jambalaya, with a roux base, vegetables, beans and rice, gumbo soup, with black-eyed peas, okra, kale, peppers and rice, and 3-bean vegetable chili, with three bean varieties, tofu and vegetables.
“We wanted to create that same comfort and nourishment for busy families — soups made exactly how you would at home, with real organic ingredients and slow simmering, just without spending hours in the kitchen," said Fred Scarpulla, chief culinary officer at Amy's Kitchen.
The Campbell’s Co. expanded its Campbell’s Chunky portfolio with a line of burger-based soups. The line includes sirloin burger with country vegetables beef soup, a beef and vegetable soup with seasoned beef, potatoes, carrots, other country vegetables and 15 grams of protein per serving; Texas-style barbecue burger soup, featuring beef sirloin steak burgers, bacon, red pepper, potatoes, carrots, a seasoning of barbecue sauce flavors and spices, and 13 grams of protein; and cheesy jalapeño burger with bacon bits soup, with seasoned beef sirloin burgers, jalapeño peppers, potatoes, onions, bacon bits, cheddar cheese and 14 grams of protein.
For consumers looking to create homemade chili in under 30 minutes, Bush’s Beans launched a slow-simmered white chili magic chili starter. The product is formulated with great northern beans, garlic, onion and cumin. The vegetarian starter provides 6 grams of plant-based protein per serving and is a good source of fiber, according to the company.
“Bush's is always looking for ways to help busy home cooks enjoy more quality time with loved ones around the dinner table," said Ben Carpenter, brand manager at Bush's. "That's why we're bringing more bold, in-demand flavors to our Chili Magic lineup and providing families with a quick yet quality meal they can be proud to serve."
