KANSAS CITY — Restaurant operators are tapping into co-developed offerings to expand their menus.
Yum! Brands subsidiary Taco Bell has partnered with dessert company Milk Bar to create Milk Bar Birthday Cake Churros. The limited-time treat combines the traditional churro format with a birthday cake frosting filling and a topping of pink sprinkles.
“We love partnerships that play with form and flavor, which is exactly what we’ve done with this extra-celebratory take on the churro,” said Liz Matthews, global chief food innovation officer at Taco Bell.
The Wendy’s Co. teamed up with Girl Scouts of the USA to debut a frosty variety inspired by Girl Scout cookies. The Thin Mints Frosty is available in a vanilla or chocolate base and comes swirled with minty cookie crumble sauce.
“By bringing together two iconic fan favorite flavors into a single spoonful, we're delivering an exclusive, one-of-a-kind Frosty experience to connect with our Wendy’s fanbase and Girl Scout cookie supporters alike,” said Lindsay Radkoski, US chief marketing officer for The Wendy's Co.
Krispy Kreme and entertainment company Hulu have collaborated to launch a collection of donuts inspired by classic movie snacks. The line includes the blue raspberry slush donut, a glazed donut dipped in blue raspberry flavored icing and blue sanding sugar; the caramel popcorn donut, an unglazed donut with caramel popcorn-flavored crème filling, white icing and a topping of caramel popcorn and red icing drizzles; the cookie dough superstar donut, an unglazed donut with chocolate buttercream-flavored filling dipped in chocolate icing and topped with sprinkles and cookie dough bites; and the candy double feature donut, a glazed donut with white icing that is topped with milk chocolate candy pieces and mini milk chocolate chips.
“This first-ever collaboration with Hulu lets our fans enjoy their favorite movie snack flavors with their favorite donut while streaming their favorite movie,” said Dave Skena, chief growth officer at Krispy Kreme.
