NEW BERLIN, NY. — Chobani LLC has broken ground on a $1.2 billion manufacturing plant in Rome, NY. The 1.4 million-square-foot plant will feature up to 28 production lines with the capability to process 12 million lbs of milk per day, according to the company.

“New York is where Chobani’s journey began,” said Hamdi Ulukaya, founder and chief executive officer. “It was the perfect spot to start Chobani 20 years ago, and it’s the perfect place to continue our story.”

In March, the company said it was investing $500 million to expand its manufacturing plant in Twin Falls, Idaho. The expansion will add 500,000 square feet of space, bringing the total square footage of the plant to 1.6 million square feet where 24 production lines will operate. The plant makes items such as yogurt, oat milk alternatives and coffee creamers. Chobani initially opened the plant in 2012.
