NEW YORK — Kind LLC, a subsidiary of Mars, Inc., is taking another step in its sustainability efforts with the launch of its first curbside recyclable paper wrapper pilot in the United States.
Kind said the recyclable bar wrappers are made with pulpable paper and will leverage a curbside recyclable, How2Recycle pre-qualified paper type. The wrappers will be featured on Kind dark chocolate nuts and sea salt single bar products exclusively offered at select Whole Foods Market stores across Connecticut, New Jersey, New York, Texas, Southern California and select stores in Arizona, Louisiana and Nevada.
“At Kind, we’re constantly listening to our consumers, and what we hear is clear — they want products that not only deliver exceptional quality but also align with their values,” said Osher Hoberman, chief marketing officer of Kind North America. “This new paper wrapper pilot is a direct result of that feedback. We’re proud to continue to lead the industry with bold, forward-thinking and innovative solutions, not just for our packaging, but across our entire product portfolio.”
Two years ago, Kind launched a pilot of a paper-based wrapper. That initiative was an e-commerce trial available exclusively on kindsnacks.com. Kind said the pilot gave the company “a robust foundation” of consumer feedback and performance insights that it used for research and development of the new curbside recyclable paper wrapper pilot.
“Developing a recyclable paper wrapper in less than two years demonstrates remarkable progress in sustainable packaging innovation,” said David Love, chief strategy officer of Printpack, Kind’s technical packaging partner. “This breakthrough sets a new standard for sustainable solutions in the food packaging industry and shows what’s possible when companies prioritize environmental stewardship.”
The curbside recyclable paper wrapper pilot is part of Kind’s goal to make all its packaging designed for recyclability by 2030.
