KANSAS CITY — Bread manufacturers are innovating with new formats and formulations.

Dave’s Killer Bread, a Flowers Foods, Inc. brand, unveiled a line of sandwich rolls. The rolls are USDA organic and Non-GMO Project verified. Varieties include 21 whole grains and seeds, with 16 grams of whole grains and 11 grams of protein per serving, and Sandwich Rolls Done Right, with 10 grams of whole grains and 11 grams of protein per serving.

“This addition to our product family presents a unique opportunity to attract new consumers and energize existing fans for DKB,” said Cristina Watson, senior brand manager at Dave’s Killer Bread. “With the growing demand for convenient and healthy meal options, consumers are seeking bread that can support their needs without compromising on taste, and these sandwich rolls deliver on texture and flavor.”

Bimbo Bakeries USA expanded its Thomas’ product portfolio with Thomas’ High Protein Bagels. The bagels offer 20 grams of plant-based protein, derived from soy protein isolate, pea protein isolate and fava bean proteins, per serving. Flavors include plain and everything.

“Today’s consumers are looking for convenient, protein-rich options that don’t compromise on taste,” said Jinder Bhogal, senior brand manager for Thomas’. “Our new High Protein Bagels offer consumers variety with a breakfast solution that’s not only packed with nutrition but also rooted in the iconic flavor Thomas’ is known for.”

Ontario-based Unbun Foods developed a line of high-protein sliced bread. The complete protein line features a gluten-free formulation with 22 grams of protein and 2 net carbohydrates per slice, with such varieties as white and seeded.

“We’ve been working behind the scenes to bring protein-packed innovation to the market,” said Gus Klemos, founder of Unbun. “We’re kicking off our Complete Protein line with bread, and rapidly expanding with naan, tortillas, and more. Imagine starting your day with 22 grams of protein from your morning toast and adding another 20+ at lunch — it’s never been easier to hit your protein goals.”
