PITTSFIELD, NH. — Rustic Crust, Inc., a maker of ready-made pizza crusts, sauces, pizza kits and American Flatbread branded frozen pizzas that halted operations last fall, is selling its Pittsfield, NH-based wood-fired frozen pizza and shelf-stable dough manufacturing facility. Rustic Crust is a portfolio company of SJF Ventures.
The 28,000-square-foot facility, which offers a three-line setup and has the opportunity for expansion, offers manufacturers a turnkey operation that is able to produce fresh and frozen food, according to the company.
The facility also features a maximum capacity of 45 million units annually that is supported by spiral freezing and cooling equipment along with three Etter impingement gas ovens, four custom-built wood-fired ovens and two Foodjet MDL 800 sauce depositors, according to the company.
Rustic Crust was founded in 1996 by Brad Sterl and marketed its products to supermarkets and health and gourmet stores. In March 2014, the company’s only production facility was involved in a fire that burnt it to the ground.
The fire halted the company’s production and national supply, but 30 days later, its products were back in production.
Following the fire, Rustic Crust then built an $8 million, two-story, 28,000-square-foot production facility that was built on the site of its former facility.
The facility began production in December 2014, according to SJF Ventures.
In 2018, Advantage Capital Agribusiness Partners, LP invested $8 million in Rustic Crust.
Last fall, Rustic Crust unexpectedly ceased operations, citing “economic and industry forces beyond our control.”
