INDIANAPOLIS — Product developers’ efforts to continually develop innovative offerings were on display at the 2025 Sweets & Snacks Expo. The annual event, hosted by the National Confectioners Association, ran from May 12 to May 16 in Indianapolis and had over 1,000 exhibitors and 14,000 attendees.

Areas of focus for product innovation included new formats and formulations. For instance, Conagra Brands, Inc. debuted Slim Jim Bites, a smaller format of its meat snack sticks. The product aims to capitalize on the momentum of bite-size items in the meat snack category, which are currently the second fastest growing segment, according to the company.

Conagra Brands also partnered with Buffalo Wild Wings to develop a line of chicken-based meat sticks, in flavors such as Buffalo-style and hot. The product will launch in the fall in the Slim Jim Giant Stick 0.97 oz format.

Mondelez International, Inc. expanded its portfolio of Clif Builders bars with a line of reduced sugar protein bars. Each bar contains 16 grams of protein and 5 grams of sugar, and the product is formulated free from artificial sweeteners. The company also launched an Oreo-flavored variety under its Builders line, with 20 grams of protein.

“With our Builders protein bars, we're focused on delivering purposefully crafted high-protein fuel options and developing indulgent products without artificial sweeteners," said Saurabh Kaushik, director of brand marketing at Mondelez. “We're introducing Reduced Sugar Crispy Protein Bars, offering 5 grams of sugar per bar, for those looking for delicious protein fuel with less sugar to help power their active day.”
