KANSAS CITY — Foodservice operators are aiming to beat the heat with new summer beverage offerings.

For instance, Chick-fil-A has launched peach frosted lemonade for a limited time. The seasonal drink combines the chain’s traditional lemonade recipe with its Icedream dessert and peaches. As part of the launch, Chick-fil-A is bringing back the peach milkshake for its 16th year.

“As we continue to surprise and delight our guests with new and unique flavors throughout the year, we wanted to offer a spin on the peach taste everyone knows and loves with the peach frosted lemonade,” said Allison Duncan, director of menu and packaging at Chick-fil-A.

Dallas-based Smoothie King is focusing on functional benefits with its line of hydration smoothies. Each beverage contains electrolytes and coconut water to deliver natural hydration benefits, according to the company. Varieties include hydration watermelon, hydration pineapple mango and hydration berry.

“Our guests want hydration that not only delivers results, but also tastes amazing,” said Claudia Schaefer, chief marketing officer at Smoothie King. “We’ve crafted these hydration smoothies to offer the perfect balance — blending coconut water and electrolytes to hydrate and support your holistic health and wellness goals, all while delivering the refreshing taste of summer in a cup.”

Sonic Drive-In is experimenting with lemonade offerings through its sweet topped lemonades line. The beverages mix the tart flavor notes of lemonade with a layer of cold foam. Flavors include classic lemonade, strawberry lemonade and blueberry lavender lemonade.

Sonic also has launched its latest snack innovation with cheesy garlic pepperoni bites. The item features mozzarella cheese, provolone cheese, pepperoni and pizza sauce.
