KANSAS CITY  — Bar innovations are rolling out in the snack aisle.

Kellanova is adding to its RXBAR brand with new high protein bars available in strawberry peanut butter and vanilla peanut butter. The gluten-free, plant-based bars feature 18 grams of protein and are formulated with six ingredients. The bars are sweetened with organic agave nectar.

“In our innovation kitchen, every ingredient has to fight for its seat at the table,” said Suzy Singh, a food scientist who worked on the RXBAR High Protein bars. “Pea protein is our texture architect and protein powerhouse. Peanut butter is our flavor hero and binding agent. No ingredient gets a free ride — they all need to have a purpose in creating something that appears simple but performs like nothing else on the market. Eighteen grams of protein have never tasted this delicious.”

Kodiak Cakes is adding trail bars and frozen breakfast sandwiches to its list of offerings. The trails bars offer 7 grams of protein and are formulated with chocolate, nuts, seeds and fruit. The breakfast sandwiches offer 20 grams of protein per sausage and cheddar or bacon and Colby jack sandwich.

“Kodiak has always been about fueling adventure with real, nourishing food that tastes great and powers your day,” said Valerie Oswalt, chief executive officer of Kodiak Cakes. “With the introduction of our trail bars and frozen breakfast sandwiches, we’re not just expanding our product offerings — we’re meeting our consumers where they are, whether they’re hitting the trail, racing through a busy morning, or needing a hearty, satisfying bite on the go.”

Mars, Inc. is releasing grain-filled energy bars under its Kind LLC subsidiary. The bars are formulated with oats, millets, buckwheat, amaranth and quinoa. The bars are available in strawberry banana, pineapple mango, mixed berry and oatmeal drizzle varieties.
