KANSAS CITY — The food and beverage industry continues to lean into consumer interest in protein with new product launches across a variety of categories.
Danone North America brand Oikos debuted its first shelf-stable beverage offering with a line of protein shakes. Boasting 30 grams of protein, 5 grams of prebiotic fiber and 1 gram of sugar per 12-oz serving, the shakes come in such varieties as chocolate, vanilla and salted caramel.
“Protein isn’t just a necessity for gym-goers looking to up their gains — it’s also for people with on-the-go lifestyles who are looking for an easy and convenient way to incorporate a nutritious protein boost into their everyday hustle,” said Rafael Acevedo, president and general manager of yogurt at Danone North America.
American media personality Khloé Kardashian made her foray into the protein snack segment with the launch of Khloud Protein Popcorn. The popcorn is formulated with whole grain corn and “Khloud Dust,” a mix of milk proteins and seasonings, according to the company. Each serving contains 7 grams of protein, with flavors like olive oil and sea salt, sweet and salty kettle corn, and white cheddar.
“As a busy mom, I wanted to create a snack brand that did more, with no tradeoffs,” Kardashian said. “Our first product is a protein popcorn that tastes amazing, is made with real ingredients that you can pronounce, contains no seed oils, and is an easy source of protein on even your busiest days.”
Mush, a maker of ready-to-eat overnight oats, expanded its product portfolio with protein overnight oats. The whole-grain oats contain 15 grams of protein per serving, with varieties like peanut butter, peanut butter and jelly, peanut butter chocolate chip, peanut butter banana, chocolate peanut butter, cookies and cream, and chocolate brownie.
