CHICAGO — Lactalis USA, the United States affiliate of French dairy company Lactalis Group, has created a newly formed division following the completed acquisition of General Mills. Inc.’s US yogurt business called Midwest Yogurt, Minneapolis. The brands from General Mills joining Midwest Yogurt include: Yoplait, Go-Gurt, Oui, Mountain High and :Ratio.
The transaction also includes approximately 1,000 employees and two manufacturing facilities in Murfreesboro, Tenn., and Reed City, Mich.
The North American yogurt business contributed approximately $1.5 billion to General Mills’ fiscal 2024 sales of $19.9 billion, according to the company.
“Incorporating the popular Yoplait brand into our house of US dairy product brands will create important, new opportunities for growth and product innovation, as well as positive impacts for our customers, communities and employees,” said Esteve Torrens, chief executive officer of Lactalis USA.
Lactalis USA’s yogurt division also includes Lactalis US Yogurt, which manufactures such yogurt products as organic, high protein yogurts, children-focused yogurt products, “indulgent desserts” and others.
Lactalis US Yogurt brands include Stonyfield Organic, Siggi’s, Brown Cow and Green Mountain Creamery.
General Mills also sold its Canadian yogurt business to the French dairy cooperative Sodiaal, Paris.
General Mills will receive approximately $2.1 billion for the sale of its US and Canadian assets, according to the company.
