Campbell launches CheeseburgerOs

CAMDEN, N.J. – Marking the brand’s first flavor extension in more than 20 years, Campbell Soup Co. is adding a cheeseburger flavor to its SpaghettiOs line.

CheeseburgerOs features the iconic O-shaped pasta in a cheeseburger-flavored meat sauce and contains a full serving of vegetables.

Since the 1965 introduction of SpaghettiOs, other flavors have included PizzOs and CheesOs.

The product is available in 15-oz cans at retailers nationwide.

Old El Paso adds stand-up tortillas

MINNEAPOLIS – Taking a stand against droopy tortillas, General Mills is adding Stand ‘N Stuff soft flour tortillas to its Old El Paso portfolio. The patent-pending product is bowl-shaped and flat-bottomed, allowing for easy filling and eating.

“The Old El Paso hard-shell Stand ‘N Stuff Taco really resonated with consumers, and we wanted to bring this great benefit to soft tortilla lovers as well,” said Colleen Orani, marketing manager at General Mills. “The unique tortilla boat shape stands up on your plate for easy filling and holds your taco fillings in for less spillage between bites.”

Also new from Old El Paso are Mexican cooking sauces in roasted tomato, chipotle and chile and roasted garlic flavors.

The tortillas are available nationwide for a suggested retail price of $2.79 per 8-ct package and $3.59 as a dinner kit with sauce and seasoning. Old El Paso Mexican Cooking Sauces are available for a suggested retail price of $2.49.

Pepperidge puffs up Goldfish

NORWALK, CONN. – Pepperidge Farm, a division of the Campbell Soup Co., is targeting teenagers with its latest variety of Goldfish snacks.

Made in a certified gluten-free facility, Goldfish Puffs are available in Buffalo wing, cheddar bacon and mega-cheese flavors. The snacks contain 10 grams of whole grains per serving and are made with no artificial preservatives.

“We’ve taken all the elements of our crackers we know teens love – in particular the shape and the smile – and really turned up the volume,” said Jared Konstanty, senior vice-president and general manager of snacks at Pepperidge Farm. “It’s the first time we’ve used such bold flavors or such a crunchy snack base.”

The product is available nationwide for a suggested retail price of $2.99 per 7-oz bag and 99c for a 2-oz bag.

StarKist introduces gourmet sardines

PITTSBURGH – Joining StarKist Co.’s line of shelf-stable seafood products is Gourmet Selects Sardines, skinless, boneless sardine fillets packed in flavorful sauces.

Varieties include extra virgin olive oil, Tuscan-style tomato sauce and whole grain Dijon mustard.

The products are available in grocery and Wal-Mart stores select markets for a suggested retail price of $2.49 per 4.37-oz can.

General Mills reformulates Yoplait Greek

MINNEAPOLIS – A reformulated and repackaged version of Yoplait Greek from General Mills, Inc. will hit shelves in August. The new variety features Greek-strained yogurt blended with fruit pieces.

“It was clear that fruit mix-ins and fruit-on-the-bottom weren’t the ideal way for people to eat Greek yogurt,” said Liza Dopp, marketing manager for Yoplait Greek. “We also observed people stirring their cups before eating, so it became clear that a blended product was what they wanted.”

Flavors include blueberry, strawberry-raspberry, tangerine, coconut, pineapple and vanilla. Made without artificial sweeteners, colors or flavors, the product contains 150 calories or less and 11 grams of protein per serving.

Yoplait Greek will be available nationwide for a suggested retail price of $1.29 per 5.3-oz cup.

Jamba Juice offers Quaker Oats boost

EMERYVILLE, CALIF. – Jamba Juice Co. and The Quaker Oats Co., a subsidiary of PepsiCo, Inc., have entered into a partnership to offer easy-to-blend whole grain oats as a smoothie boost at Jamba Juice stores.

For 25c, the add-in contributes 16 grams of whole grains to a fruit smoothie.

“As the leader in oats, it’s imperative we continue to develop new and transformative ways for people to enjoy whole grains, which play an essential role promoting overall health,” said Jose Luis Prado, president of Quaker Foods North America. “This not only includes developing breakthrough, oat-based products, but also working with critical partners like Jamba Juice to broaden oats accessibility. We’re excited to align with them on this project.”

Jamba also is introducing a Kona Berry Blast Smoothie and a Kona Berry Blast Bowl, each featuring coffee fruit with other fruit ingredients, for a limited time.

Lean Cuisine debuts natural line

SOLON, OHIO – Nestle USA’s latest Lean Cuisine line extension includes six varieties made with all-natural ingredients and no preservatives. Lean Cuisine Honestly Good features lean proteins, whole grains and vegetables, packaged with a separate pouch of flavored sauce.

Varieties include pomegranate-glazed chicken with whole grain pilaf; coconut-crusted salmon with brown rice and ginger lemongrass sauce; roasted red pepper chicken with whole grain pasta; grain-crusted North Pacific white fish with brown rice, edamame and plum ginger sauce; prime rib beef with a rice medley and pineapple black pepper sauce; and honey citrus chicken with whole-grain pasta.

The products are available nationwide.

Cinnabon K-Cups to roll out

WATERBURY, VT. — Green Mountain Coffee Roasters, Inc. is partnering with Atlanta-based Cinnabon, Inc. to produce the brand’s bakery-inspired coffee in K-Cup packs for the Keurig single-cup brewing system.

The Cinnabon Classic Cinnamon Roll K-Cup is a smooth, light-roast coffee blended with cinnamon, brown sugar and frosting flavors. The product will be available at Keurig.com during the holiday season and in retail locations and Cinnabon stores by next spring.

Green Mountain also has brewed up a collaboration with Lipton Tea, a division of Unilever, to launch hot and iced tea K-Cups. Varieties include an iced black tea sweetened with cane sugar, a rich black tea and a smooth green tea. The products are available at retailers nationwide.

Hodgson Mills unveils quinoa and brown rice sides

EFFINGHAM, ILL. – Hodgson Mills is introducing quinoa and brown rice side dishes in Italian, garlic and herb, lemon pepper, spicy and Mediterranean flavors.

With 5 grams of protein 2 grams of fiber per serving, the low-sodium side dishes are certified kosher and packaged in a gluten-free facility. The product line is available where rice and beans or gluten-free items are sold at grocery stores nationwide.

Taco Bell adds indulgent items

IRVINE, CALIF. – A cheese- and sauce-smothered burrito and a fudgy brownie sandwich are recent introductions from Taco Bell.

The Smothered Burrito contains shredded chicken, seasoned beef or marinated thick-cut steak with Latin rice, beans and creamy chipotle sauce and topped with red sauce, melted cheeses and reduced-fat sour cream.

The brownie sandwich features two triangle-shaped brownies with a fudge frosting filling.

Both items are available nationwide.

Hot Shot Bites hit KFC

LOUISVILLE, KY. – KFC cranks up the heat with Hot Shot Bites, deep-fried breaded bites of white chicken breast meat seasoned in a hot and spicy marinade.

The limited-time item is available in a six-piece combo meal for $3.99 at restaurants nationwide.

Popeyes launches Chicken Waffle Tenders

ATLANTA – Capitalizing on the chicken and waffle trend, Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen, a division of AFC Enterprises, Inc., is launching Chicken Waffle Tenders.

The all-white meat chicken tenders are marinated in Louisiana spices and hand-battered in a waffle batter-style coating, served with a honey maple dipping sauce.

The limited-time item is available with Cajun fries and a biscuit for $4.99 at restaurants nationwide.

Shamrock Farms debuts flavored sour cream

PHOENIX – Shamrock Farms, a family-owned and –operated dairy, is dipping into the sour cream category with three flavors: creamy ranch, French onion and zesty jalapeño.

“It’s wholesome, real, fresh dairy with a pop of flavor to meet consumers’ desires for products that ‘do more,’” said Sandy Kelly, senior director of marketing for Shamrock Farms. “It’s a dip, it’s a recipe ingredient, it’s a dish topper. And it’s delicious.”
