Jif expands spreads

ORRVILLE, OHIO – The J.M. Smucker Co. pumps up its Jif portfolio with whipped peanut butter spreads and almond and cashew butters.

Packaged in wide-mouth tubs for dipping and spreading, Jif Whips have a smooth and fluffy texture with a creamy peanut butter taste in original and peanut butter chocolate varieties. A peanut butter and chocolate mint flavor also is available through the holiday season. The products are available nationwide for a suggested retail price of $2.99 to $3.89.

No-stir almond and cashew butters are available nationwide in creamy and crunchy varieties for a suggested retail price of $6.99.

Kellogg brews up coffee shakes

BATTLE CREEK, MICH. – New breakfast options from The Kellogg Co. include Special K Coffee House shakes, on-the-go, shelf-stable drinks in chocolate mocha and vanilla cappuccino flavors. Each shake contains 200 calories, 10 grams of protein and 5 grams of fiber, plus the same amount of caffeine as a 5.5-oz cup of coffee.

The products are available at select retailers nationwide.

Chiquita tropical juices debut

JERSEY CITY, N.J. – MOJO Organics, Inc. is launching Chiquita Tropicals, a Chiquita Brands-licensed line of 100% fruit juice drinks in banana strawberry, mango, pineapple and passion fruit varieties. The beverages are gluten-free and made with no bioengineered ingredients, preservatives or added sugar.

Hillshire beefs up breakfast

CHICAGO – Hillshire Brands expands its Jimmy Dean frozen breakfast options with savory sandwiches and a better-for-you bowl.

Under the Delights by Jimmy Dean line of lower-calorie products, the Garden Blend Breakfast Bowl contains egg whites, diced potatoes, cheddar cheese, peppers and onions with 240 calories, 10 grams of fat and 18 grams of protein.

New Jimmy Dean sandwiches include a croissant packed with egg, red peppers, onions and pepper jack cheese, and a snack-size sandwich featuring a sausage patty between two maple pancakes.

The products will be available in grocery stores nationwide beginning in September.

Weight Watchers adds baked offerings

JACKSON, MICH. – Dawn Foods Products, Inc. is adding two treats to its Weight Watchers-licensed line of sweet baked foods. Triple Chocolate Brownie Bliss bars feature a brownie layered with creamy chocolate ganache and a chocolate coating. Peanut Butter Brownie Bliss bars include a brownie layered with creamy peanut butter and a chocolate coating. With 80 to 90 calories and zero grams of trans fat, the products are available at select retailers nationwide for a suggested retail price beginning at $3.29.

Campbell adds pub-style soups

CAMDEN, N.J. – Hearty cheeseburger, spicy chicken quesadilla and Philly-style cheesesteak join the lineup of Campbell’s Chunky soup flavors from the Campbell Soup Co. Inspired by football season fare, the three new varieties will be available nationwide beginning in September. Improved recipes for Campbell’s Chunky soups including New England clam chowder, old-fashioned vegetable beef and beef with country vegetables also are set to debut.

Steak joins McDonald’s morning menu

OAK BROOK, ILL. – The McDonald’s Corp. is adding steak to its breakfast menu. Customers may substitute a round, seasoned steak patty topped with grilled onions on any breakfast sandwich, including McMuffin, biscuit and bagel sandwiches. A steak, egg and cheese McMuffin has 430 calories, 27 grams of protein and 23 grams of fat per serving. The option is currently rolling out to U.S. locations.

Applegate Naturals adds bologna

BRIDGEWATER, N.J. – Uncured bologna is the latest lunchmeat variety from Applegate Naturals. Made with 100% beef and pork with no fillers, the product contains less fat and sodium than conventional brands and is free of antibiotics and hormones. The product will be available nationwide beginning in September for a suggested retail price of $4.99.

Hiland Dairy goes Greek

SPRINGFIELD, MO. – Hiland Dairy hops on the Greek yogurt bandwagon with a line of nonfat varieties in seven flavors: vanilla, strawberry, raspberry, blueberry, black cherry, peach and pineapple. The line debuts in September in select Midwestern retailers.

Specialty peppers roll out

LAFAYETTE, CALIF. – A line of specialty peppers debuts from Lindsay, a condiment and olive producer. Varieties include sweet banana peppers, whole and sliced golden Greek pepperoncinis, hot chili peppers, jalapeno peppers, roasted red peppers and mixed giardiniera, which includes carrots, cauliflower, Sicilian olives, red peppers and celery. The products are available in select retailers throughout Northern California with plans for a national rollout.

Edamame snack debuts

HUNTINGTON BEACH, CALIF. – Seapoint Farms is introducing Crunchy Coated Premium Black Edamame, a gluten-free, high-protein snack made with sea salt. The product is available nationwide for a suggested retail price of $1.99.

Boulder Canyon unveils heart-healthy snack chips

PHOENIX – Olive oil and avocado oil are the newest varieties of Canyon Cut kettle-cooked potato chips from Boulder Canyon Natural Foods, a brand of Inventure Foods, Inc. Ridged potato chips are cooked in small-batch kettles with 100% avocado oil or olive oil and feature a touch of sea salt. Mizkan sweetens rice vinegar selection

MOUNT PROSPECT, ILL. – Mizkan Americas, a global condiment manufacturer, has expanded its Nakano line of seasoned rice vinegar products with two sweetened varieties.
