PATERSON, N.J. — Greek and Mediterranean food manufacturer and distributor Kontos Foods, Inc. announced it will expand its export business to Bermuda, the Bahamas, Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico due to growing demand for its foods. The expansion program is targeted at local retailers and distributors as well as food service establishments.

“In all these markets we are seeing an increase in requests from nearly all retail store chains, and restaurants, for products such as flatbreads, Fillo dough, Spanakopita, Baklava, and Gyro meats,” said Steve Kontos, vice-president of Kontos Foods. “For our sales expansion effort, we are working closely with our distributors to better understand these changes in the market, develop relevant culinary ideas, and provide new marketing and point of sale material to support growth.”

Warren Stool, marketing and business development director at Kontos, added, “Our distributors in Bermuda, the Bahamas, Dominican Republic, and Puerto Rico have been very receptive to how we segment the flatbread market — for instance, our ‘better-for-you’, ethnic, hors d’oeuvres, and pizza bread segments. We are excited to provide their sales teams with tactical support, new package designs, new floor display models, recipe ideas, as well as high-level strategic support and creative thinking. Over the past nine months, a similar effort in Quebec has resulted in an 85% jump in sales for our local distributor.”

Kontos’ expansion efforts also have established a consumer base in Europe, the Middle East and Eastern Asia.
