AUSTIN, TEXAS — Whole Foods Market and grocery delivery service Instacart announced a new partnership to allow customers to have the option to order on-line at Instacart.com to pick up products from Whole Foods stores. Whole Foods will be the first national Instacart partner to offer in-store pickup.

The organic food retailer and on-line delivery service will pilot the in-store pickup option in Boston and Austin in the next month. Instacart already offers delivery service from Whole Foods in all cities it serves. Whole Foods and Instacart expect to expand the in-store pickup to all of the cities.

“Instacart and Whole Foods Market are two companies that share a common vision to create great grocery shopping experiences,” said Apporva Mehata, chief executive officer and founder of Instacart. “Whole Foods Market is our most requested shopping destination, and we’re happy to be working together to create a seamless, quick option for customers with busy lifestyles.”

A delivery, and now pick-up, service like Instacart not only makes grocery shopping more convenient for the shopper, but also helps ease the logistics for the retailer, the companies said.

“Instacart makes it extremely easy for our customers to buy Whole Foods Market products from 15 cities and have them quickly delivered — whether buying fresh ingredients for dinner tonight or sending healthy foods to loved ones in another city,” said Walter Robb, co-c.e.o. of Whole Foods Market. “We are thrilled to add this additional convenience for our customers.”
