AURORA, ILL. — Vista Processed Foods Pvt., Ltd., a business unit of the OSI Group, is expanding in India with the opening of a value-added frozen vegetable processing plant in the northern part of the country, in the state of Punjab. In addition to the site in Punjab, Vista operates plants in southern India, near Bangalore, and in Taloja, Navi Mumbai.
The Punjab plant will focus on producing value-added frozen vegetable products for quick-service restaurants and retail outlets for both the domestic and export markets. Vista said the new plant also houses one of the country’s largest fresh vegetable processing lines, which is owned and operated by Pagro Frozen Foods Pvt., Ltd. Pagro has been one of Vista’s primary raw material vegetable suppliers for more than a decade.
“This new plant completes another important component of our manufacturing strategy to supply our key customers in India and the Middle East,” said Brent Afman, senior vice-president and general manager of further processing at OSI APMEA. “By leveraging our relationship with a key supply chain partner like Pagro, Vista is positioned to assure supply to our core customers with safe, high quality food products at competitive prices.”
Vista Processed Foods Pvt. Ltd. entered the Indian market in 1995 and has since become one of the largest frozen processed food companies in the country. Its product lines include frozen vegetables, fresh produce, chicken and dairy products for both food service and retail markets.
Pagro Frozen Foods Pvt. Ltd. is a joint venture between Punjab Agro Industries Corp. and investment company Reeshnar Investments, Mauritius. Pagro has the largest modern technology frozen pea processing plant in the country and has been a Vista supplier since 2002.
